Natural gas. Natural gas, also known as methane, is a mixture of naturally occurring gases that consists of various light hydrocarbons such as methane (CH4), ethane (C2H6), propane (C3H8), and butane (C4H10). It is usually found in underground deposits along with crude oil and is one of the most significant fossil energy sources.

Types of Natural Gas:

  • Methane (CH4): This gas is the primary component of natural gas and has a high energy value. Methane is used in various applications, including as a fuel for power generation, heating homes, and as a raw material in the chemical industry.
  • Ethane (C2H6), Propane (C3H8), and Butane (C4H10): These types are known as rich gases or liquified petroleum gas (LPG). They are used as fuel for cooking, home heating, and in various industrial applications.
