Natural gas. Natural gas, also known as methane, is a mixture of naturally occurring gases that consists of various light hydrocarbons such as methane (CH4), ethane (C2H6), propane (C3H8), and butane (C4H10). It is usually found in underground deposits along with crude oil and is one of the most significant fossil energy sources.
Types of Natural Gas:
- Methane (CH4): This gas is the primary component of natural gas and has a high energy value. Methane is used in various applications, including as a fuel for power generation, heating homes, and as a raw material in the chemical industry.
- Ethane (C2H6), Propane (C3H8), and Butane (C4H10): These types are known as rich gases or liquified petroleum gas (LPG). They are used as fuel for cooking, home heating, and in various industrial applications.
Major natural gas-producing regions in Indonesia:
- Natuna Gas Field: Located in the Natuna Sea, Riau Islands, it is one of the largest gas fields in Indonesia.
- Grissik Gas Field: Located in South Sumatra.
- Jambaran-Tiung Biru Gas Field: Located in East Java.
Natural gas production in Indonesia in the last 5 years (approximately until September 2021):
- 2016: 2.545 billion cubic feet per day (MMSCFD)
- 2017: 2.754 MMSCFD
- 2018: 3.056 MMSCFD
- 2019: 3.193 MMSCFD
- 2020: 3.166 MMSCFD
Gas exports from Indonesia:
Indonesia has exported natural gas to various countries, with some main export partners being:
- Japan
- South Korea
- China
- Taiwan
- Singapore
The production of natural gas in Indonesia has shown a stable increase over the last 5 years, and Alizamrud Corporation, investing in the gas management business presents a promising opportunity to support Indonesia’s energy supply and contribute to the country’s economy.
